Escort 1800 Diesel Combi Van
This is my old Escort 1.8 Diesel Combi Van, It was a Ford special build order for British Rail. The combi vans are basically a 3 door Escort Estate car (Station Wagon) but without the rear side windows, and an extended "false" floor panel were the rear seats would be in an Estate car to turn it into a van. I have to say my combi van was hanging bodywork wise, but was extremely reliable. It was the first of the new 1800 diesels. I did do a lot of work to this van to replace the existing rotten bodypanels, I Fitted new rear wheel arches, new sills, new front panel and front crossmember, new front wings. I also bought a 1.6 Escort Ghia saloon as a donor car, in which I fitted the bonnet, the full interior to the van including the whole dash board, carpets, centre console and also the seats, I converted the rear of the van by removing the false floor to fit the rear seat from the ghia. I fitted a XR3i front bumper and RS turbo bonnet vents and XR2 alloy wheels. I later got the van resprayed back to all yellow, but unfortunately never took a photo of it when it was finished.
