Focus goes to France!
I picked up my Focus estate on Wednesday 7th January 2004, I had arranged to go to France in
January to go to Disneyland, Paris with the wife and kids, we were originally
gong in a Fiesta TDCi until we got the Focus Estate.
This is my focus's
first big trip. I had only done just under 75 miles in the focus before its trip
to France, My estate is 3 years old and is low mileage with 22546 miles on the
clock.
So as you might have guessed this page is about our trip to France. |

Waiting to board the Eurotunnel, England.
Hotel car park in Calais, near Cité Europe
The Journey
begins
Our trip to France commenced 11th January 2004, We got on the M1
close to were we live, all was going well until some prat of
Asian origin in a Rover 400 decided to start cutting up people
in the two outside lanes, causing people to swerve all over the
place, not too far from M25, how a mass pile up never happened I
will never know! Other than that we had a good drive down to the
channel tunnel terminal. It was my first long journey in the
Focus as I had only owned it a few days, it was a very
comfortable ride, and it pulled like a trooper even though it
was loaded up with suitcases. The engine was very responsive at
all speeds, also accelerated quite good up the long inclines on
the motorway with ease, to get passed the slower vehicles. Once
we arrived in Calais we stayed over night in a hotel in the Cité Europe.

Calais to
Disneyland, Paris
The Journey from Calais to Disneyland, Paris was very wet to say the
least, visibility was quite bad with spray off the lorries on the
motorway, surprisingly, the traffic was flowing smoothly and at fast
pace. I personally like driving abroad on motorways in continental
Europe, there are very few traffic jams (unless you are near a major
city) there are no road hogs or road rage antics like at home in the
UK, The Europeans have a more relaxed driving attitude than the UK
drivers, It is courteous in Europe to move out of the way if the see
a car coming up behind you if its going faster than you, same rule
applies if a car pulls out in front of you from a slower lane, let
them into your lane (you don't put your foot down to stop them
getting in so they don't slow you down and start swearing at them
like is common practice in England). I was unsure about trading in
my Fiesta TDCi and getting the focus TDdi, but after driving nearly
450 miles each way from were I live in the UK to Paris, France, and
back again, I am glad I
did buy the Focus estate after all. For information on the fuel
